Feminist political theory is not a single body of thought but a family of overlapping and often contending traditions that have shared one project: the critique of gendered power in public life. From the eighteenth-century arguments for civic equality advanced by Mary Wollstonecraft through the radical, socialist, intersectional and postcolonial revisions of the twentieth century, feminist theorists have steadily expanded both the meaning of ‘the political’ and the cast of subjects considered to have political standing.
